Coach Thaler is a Brenham native and entering his first year with the Brenham baseball staff as JV coach for the Cubs. Prior to returning to Brenham, Coach Thaler spent two years with Llano High School coaching football, basketball, and baseball. Following Llano, Thaler moved to Lake Worth where he spent 10 years teaching football, softball, and baseball. He held both the head softball and baseball positions with the Bullfrogs.
Coach Thaler is a 1997 graduate of BHS where he played football and baseball and was an All-State baseball payer. Thaler played two years of baseball at Paris Junior College, then finished his collegiate career at Tarleton State in 2002, graduating with a degree in Kinesiology.
Coach Thaler will be coaching JV baseball this year. He believes “playing sports builds character and confidence and gives kids a sense of accomplishment. It prepares student athletes for life, teaching the, about working as a team or a team player; not an individual.”
Thaler notes his favorite Cub player is Jon Peters. Along with his football and baseball coaching duties, Thaler is a Physical Education instructor at Brenham Middle School. A few of Coach Thaler’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Matt and his wife, Patricia, have two children: Vicente, ten, and Aaron, who is two.
